The geographic location of where a fossil was found is
consider to be one of the most important factors in determining it's
age. The geological time period for most collecting sites in New Jersey
is well documented (Atlantic
Costal Plain - USGS). As an aid to identification, I've divided this section into
two time periods, Cretaceous and Tertiary.
CRETACEOUS
Scapanorhynchus texanus are the largest and most
frequently encounter Cretaceous
shark teeth in
New Jersey.
